Ilse Aimee Carrillo (Aimee), BA

Aimee recently graduated with honors with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice from the University of Texas at El Paso. She is a member of Psi Chi, a National Honor Society in Psychology. During her undergraduate career she worked in two research labs: the Social Cognitive lab, under Dr. Michael Zarate and the Latino Alcohol and Health Disparities Research (LAHDR) Center under Dr. Craig Field where she continues to be involved. She worked as a follow-up assessor at LAHDR in a longitudinal clinical trial that assessed the efficacy of a culturally enhanced Brief Motivational Intervention (BMI) in reducing alcohol consumption and related problems among Latino males living along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Aimee is an interventionist in training at LAHDR, where she assist in the dissemination of Brief Motivational Interviewing (BMI) and Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) to reduce heavy drinking across the Paso del Norte Region. She also assists the Training Director in trainings of other clinicians, medical students, and school counselors in BMI and SBIRT. Recently, she began a new project at LAHDR, titled: “Motivational Interviewing in Probation: Test the Effect of a Motivational Interviewing Intervention” which plans to test the efficacy of a strengths based MI in intervention in helping probationers complete supervision successfully. Due to her in-depth involvement with the project, she currently interns at El Paso County Community Supervision and Corrections Department CSCD. Aimee is planning to obtain her Master’s degree in Social Work, and eventually earn her License in Clinical Social Work (LCSW). Her research interests include Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) for people with anxiety and depression, and Yoga and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy.
