To foster the appreciation and practice of writing, the Department of Creative Writing is launching its “2023 Bilingual Creative Writing Awards.” The competition, open to all graduate students, will accept original, unpublished work. The prizes will include a monetary award, an award letter, and publication.

Poetry

• 5 poems either in Spanish or English
• The committee will award the following prizes:

Fiction

• One self-contained piece of about 10 pages (aprox. 3,000 words) in Spanish or English

Non-Fiction

• One self-contained piece of about 10 pages (aprox. 3,000 words) in Spanish or English

Submission

Through Regular Mail

• Your submission must not include your name. Submissions with the author’s name will not be considered.
• Include a sealed envelope with the name of your submission. The envelope should contain your name and contact information.

Through Electronic Mail

• Send your submission as two (2) PDF files.
• The first PDF file should be your submission without the author’s name. Submissions with the author’s name will not be considered. This PDF file should be named after your submission’s title. For instance, if your submission is called “Winter in El Paso,” this document should be named: Winter in El Paso.PDF
• The second PDF file should include your name and contact information. This PDF file should use the following name: Submission's name--author's last name.pdf. For instance, if your last name is Perez and your submission is Winter in El Paso, this document should be named: Winter in El Paso--Perez.PDF.

Publication

The winners will be published in Spring 2024 issue of The Río Grande Review.
