Welcome to the Department of Criminal Justice, one of the largest undergraduate programs at UTEP. RECENT GRANT PROJECTS
Dr. Victor Manjarrez, Center Director and Lecturer, and Dr. Mario Cano, Assistant Professor, received funding from the U.S. Department of State to evaluate the Security and Strategic Trade Management Academy’s curricula. The Academy is for foreign government participants from India, Mexico the Philippines, and 7 other countries. Using surveys and interviews, the researchers will measure what participants learned and how the academy changes behavior. Way to go team!
Dr. Melinda Tasca, Associate Professor, is part of a multi-site grant to study the causes and consequences of prison violence across 7 states. The 2.7 million dollar grant was funded by Arnold Ventures and awarded to five different University Principal Investigators (PIs). Dr. Tasca is one of the PIs, in which UTEP will receive approximately $320,000 from this grant. Congratulations Dr. Tasca!
Dr. Misty Duke, Assistant Professor, is studying interviewee decision-making and using prospect theory to measure how much information is shared by the interviewee in response to how much they think the Interviewer already knows. Dr. Duke is an expert in interrogation and her research was funded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the amount of $144,107. We are proud of Dr. Duke!
