Music Minor

A minor in music is available for students majoring in other fields of study. Students may choose an applied music option, an academic music option, or a commercial music option.

MINOR IN MUSIC IN THE LIBERAL ARTS DEGREE PLAN

For the Applied Music Option (MUAP)

• 2 hours (2 semesters) participation in band, choir, or orchestra depending on area
• 4 semesters MUSA 1091 Recital
• 4 hours (4 semesters) MUSA 1195 Individual instruction, lower level (requires admission audition
• 9 hours (3 semesters) MUSA 3391 Individual instruction, upper level (requires admission audition
• MUSL 2321 Introduction to Music History (requires prerequisite of MUSL 1324 or successful pass of theory placement test).

For the Academic Music Option (MUAC)

• Music Theory: MUST 1313, MUST 1314 and MUST 1111, MUST 1112 (Requires MUST 1311-1312 pre-requisite or placement)
• Music History/Literature: 3 semesters from MUSL 3326, 3329 (a rotating topics course; may be repeated for credit), 3327

For the Commercial Music/Recording Option (CMUR)

• MUSA 1269-1270 Piano A and Piano B
• MUST 1311 Fundamentals
• MUST 1215 Intro to Music Technology
