Mafer Guglielmina, D.M.A.
Peruvian Flutist Dr. Mafer Guglielmina is the newly appointed Assistant Professor of Flute at the University of Texas at El Paso. A versatile and sought-after performer and educator, she has been a featured soloist with the Peru's San Ignacio de Loyola Jazz Ensemble, The Miami Sousa Band, Frost Wind Ensemble, the Penn State Chamber Orchestra, the Penn State Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the Western Michigan University Symphony Orchestra. She has won top prizes in solo competitions internationally, most recently receiving Silver Medal in the Berliner International Music Competition, Peru’s Concurso Internacional de Flautistas, Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Young Artist Competition (Pennsylvania), White Lake Young Artist Competition (Michigan), between others. As an orchestral flutist and chamber musician, she has recently performed with the Napa Valley Festival Orchestra, New World Symphony, Palm Beach Symphony, Florida Grand Opera, Opera Naples Festival Orchestra, Johnstown Symphony Orchestra, and Penn’s Woods Music Festival. As an avid educator, she has recently presented masterclasses and workshops at the Eastern Iowa Flute Workshop, the National Flute Convention, the Venezuelan Festival de Flauta Manuel Guadalajara, Flautistas del Perú, and the Festival Internacional de Flautistas in Lima, Peru. An advocate of Latin American music, her latest published essay, "Miami Flute Suite" by Miguel del Aguila: A Musical and Cultural Study features an analysis on the elements of Brazilian choro, Latin jazz, tango and Uruguayan milonga, as well as an interview with the composer himself. Dr. Guglielmina holds degrees from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, The Pennsylvania State University and Western Michigan University.
