UTEP Hosts First Annual Symposium on Language and Bilingualism
On Friday, April 14th, 2023, UTEP hosted its very first Annual Symposium on Language and Bilingualism. One of UTEP’s most important initiatives is to become the national leader in teaching and research in bilingualism, bilingual education, and second language learning. The Symposium represents but one step towards this fantastic endeavor. It exposes UTEP students to state-of-the-art research from world-renown scholars while giving them the opportunity to present and extend their own research. The event this year was sponsored by the Department of Languages and Linguistics, the Department of Psychology, and the Consortium for Scientific Research on Bilingualism. It featured an invited lecture by Dr. David Birdsong from UT Austin, and a graduate research poster session with 13 student presenters. The event was a huge success, with an attendance of 60-70 people at the lecture and 40-50 people at the poster session.
