Angela Kocherga is recognized as a Hall of Fame inductee by the National Association of Hispanic Journalists
The National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) inducted professor and news director of KTEP and Borderzine Angela Kocherga into this year's Hall of Fame. The Emmy-winning journalist was honored among three other journalists "whose efforts either nationally or locally have resulted in a greater number of Latinos entering the journalism profession or have helped to improve news coverage of the nation's Latino community."
Kocherga is also the multimedia editor for El Paso Matters and specializes in U.S.-Mexico border news. Her recent work has earned her multiple national and regional Edward R. Murrow Awards and the Maria Moors Cabot Prize from Columbia Journalism School in 2019.
Kocherga was honored on July 15, 2023, during the NAHJ International Training Convention & Expo in Miami, FL. A group of UTEP students, faculty, alumni, and journalists from our region attended the convention. They participated in the "Fronterizo Friday" meet-up for borderland journalists and witnessed Professor Angela Kocherga become a Hall of Famer.
"It was inspiring to see Professor Angela Kocherga be inducted into the NAHJ Hall of Fame. I hope to become a great journalist like her one day. Being at the conference ignited my passion for journalism and made me excited about what my future holds after I graduate next year," said Alyson Rodriguez, a senior in Multimedia Journalism.
