As UTEP's new associate vice president for academic affairs, Evelyn Posey will be responsible for directing how the university uses technology and other resources to support the teaching and learning process.
Posey, who assumes her new post immediately, was the assistant dean of UTEP's College of Liberal Arts. In this role, she was responsible for analyzing the technological needs of the college, upgrading the Liberal Arts Center for Instructional Technology, coordinating the different computer labs, and developing the college's site on the World Wide Web.
Last fall, with the opening of the Undergraduate Learning Center, which Posey will oversee, UTEP introduced its students to the exciting and expanding educational opportunities available through advanced technology. Although professors were already using technological teaching tools in their classrooms, the multimedia teaching and learning facility offers new avenues for students to embark on their lifelong pursuit of knowledge.
Posey also will oversee the Multimedia Teaching and Learning Center, which offers creative and effective methods to incorporate technology into classroom presentations - from English and history to biology and physics.
To encourage professors to share their teaching expertise with each other, the university also established the Center for Effective Teaching and Learning. By building on the successes of previous teaching models, faculty members tailor their teaching approaches to all of their classes - from the undergraduate to the graduate level.
"The areas that Dr. Posey will oversee provide tools that make professors more effective in classroom," Stephen Riter, provost and vice president for academic affairs, said. "With these resources, faculty members at UTEP will be able to implement the best practices for effective classroom instruction in order to create the most effective learning environment possible on the UTEP campus."
