Meet the New Liberal Arts Senator
Junior philosophy major and Texas Leader Scholar, Hajalett Escalante, has assumed the role of Collegiate Senator for the College of Liberal Arts (CoLART). In this position, she will represent CoLART in the Student Government Association (SGA), helping allocate funds to support student organizations, events, and university-related projects. Senators are also responsible for developing “special projects” that address campus issues and improve student life.
Escalante brings valuable experience to the role. She has worked at a law firm and served as a legal assistant to two former SGA senators, experiences that gave her an inside look at student government. Now, she is ready to put that knowledge into action. As part of her new responsibilities, she will serve on two SGA committees – Appropriations and Welfare – while also leading a special project focused on strengthening student involvement.
Escalante believes representation is essential. She hopes to foster communication among student organization leaders, encourage greater student involvement in campus life, and strengthen communication between students and the Office of the Dean.
