About the Program
Students who aim to gain initial Texas teacher certification to become high school or all-level teachers will pursue a major in the discipline they intend to teach with a minor/concentration in secondary or all-level education in one of the following certification areas:
Secondary Education
- Dance
- English Language Arts and Reading 7-12
- History 7-12
- Journalism 7-12
- Life Science 7-12
- Mathematics 7-12
- Physical Science 6-12
- Physics/Mathematics 7-12
- Science 7-12
- Social Studies 7-12
- Speech 7-12
All-level Education
- Art EC-12
- Health EC-12
- LOTE: French
- LOTE: Spanish
- Music EC-12
- Physical Education EC-12
- Theatre EC-12
Educator Preparation Program Admission Checklist
- Complete courses within the Communication,Mathematics,
and Component Area Operation of the Core
Curriculum with a grade of "C" or better. - Complete at least 60 Semester credit hour
- Current enrollment not included
- Having a minimum cumulative UTEP Grade Point Average of 2.75
- Obtain a degree evaluation from the Secondary Teacher Education Program
- Pass the THEA. if you previously completed the TSI and passed all areas without exceptions, you may use the TSI in place of the THEA
- Submit 3 Recommended Rating Forms(RRF)
- RRF may not be older than 1 year at time of submission
- RRF may not be completed by faculty/teacher/supervisor with whom you have worked,volunteered or studied with in the last three years
- Complete the Education Preparation Program application
