The Department of Sociology and Anthropology is nationally recognized for excellence in the social sciences by engaging in the discovery and application of knowledge about behavior and the social and cultural processes that underlie it, with a special focus on the U.S.-Mexico borderlands (as well as other areas), environmental justice, migration, and medical sociology/anthropology.
Mission:
The mission of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology is to offer excellent BA programs that prepare students for employment in education, government, social services and other fields as well as graduate school. Our growing MA program in Sociology has a strong track record that prepares students for advanced social research and entry into Ph.D. programs. Nationally recognized research in border studies, immigration, health and environment makes our department distinctive nationally and internationally.
