Transfer to Surplus
Whenever computing equipment is no longer needed or is no longer functional, it will be assessed by the college to see if it can be repaired, refurbished and reassigned. If it is deemed non-repairable or obsolete, it must be properly disposed of by being cannibalized or sent to Surplus. A "Surplus Property Transfer" form must be completed, signed and submitted [electronically] to Inventory to reflect the transfer of ownership to Surplus.
Departments should not cannibalize or surplus computing equipment on their own. They must contact the Technology Personnel to ensure proper guidelines and procedures are followed when it comes to data destruction.
The Technology Personnel will ensure data is properly destroyed, get the appropriate data destruction certifications, file the appropriate cannibalization/surplus forms on behalf of Liberal Arts departments and will physically take old computing equipment to Surplus.
