Technology Enhancements for FY22-23
Support:
Non-approved purchases will no longer be supported
Starting FY22-23, computing equipment purchased without a technical consultation with the Liberal Arts TIM and without the TIM's approval will no longer be supported by LACIT. If you purchase unauthorized equipment and need technical support, you will need to contact the UTEP Helpdesk helpdesk@utep.edu
Non-standard Equipment is no longer supported
Continuing for FY22-23, non-standard equipment (i.e. computers that are not branded Dell or Apple and/or that are custom setups under grants or labs) is no longer supported by LACIT. The only exception is pre-approved Microsoft Surface devices. Your department will need to deal with the 3rd party vendor(s) directly.
Purchases:
All new computing equipment purchases to be consulted and approved
Continuing for FY22-23, all computing equipment and peripheral purchases are to be consulted with and approved by College TIM Andy Castellanos and purchased by departments under the appropriate Unit Codes and Cost Centers.
All new computing equipment purchases are to be configured by the LACIT Computer Lab
All computing equipment must be configured by the LACIT Computer Lab located in Room 405 of the Liberal Arts building to ensure proper access to UTEP systems. Upon delivery of your new computing equipment purchase, please contact LACIT at lacit@utep.edu or call 915-747-5375 to pick up the equipment. DO NOT TURN IT ON!
Obsolete Equipment:
Obsolete Equipment will no longer be worked on, except to prepare it for Surplus
Continuing for FY22-23, all obsolete equipment will no longer be worked on by the Tech Personnel, except to get it ready for Surplus. If you wish to continue using your obsolete equipment, please route all service calls to the UTEP Helpdesk at helpdesk@utep.edu
Data Requirements:
OneDrive backup is required for UTEP-critical data
Continuing for FY22-23, you are required to use OneDrive to back up UTEP-critical data. If you need assistance setting your OneDrive backup, please contact the Technology Personnel.
Printing:
All Departmental printing to be handled by the selected Vendor
Continuing for FY22-23, all departmental printing is to be handled by the department's printing vendor (Spectrum as of FY22-23). The College's Technology Personnel will not work on departmental printing except to initially help connect a UTEP computer to a departmental network printer. All subsequent departmental printing tasks are to be handled by the vendor's technicians for proper setup.
