The Miner Learning Center (MLC) is dedicated to empowering undergraduate students by cultivating their academic skills, enhance learning, boost retention rates, and foster overall academic success throughout their educational journey.
Program Highlights
Peers Assisting Student Success (PASS) Program: This initiative offers interactive, peer-led study sessions tailored for traditionally challenging courses. PASS leaders, trained to facilitate these sessions, engage students in activities that encourage critical thinking, application of course concepts, and the development of adaptable study skills. The program runs in over 30 courses during fall and spring semesters, with a limited offering in summer.
Tutoring: These individual tutoring sessions allow students to voluntarily seek support in the academic area of need. These individual meetings also deliver tailored guidance on study techniques, time management, test-taking strategies, and various other essential academic success topics.
Academic Success Workshops: These workshops create an interactive setting where small to large groups of students can discover and apply effective study strategies. Topics covered include time management, overcoming procrastination, and mastering successful study techniques. Beyond scheduled sessions, student groups or classes can request customized workshops.
Online Resources: Accessible through the MLC website, these resources cater to students and the wider campus community. They encompass informative handouts on success strategies, and a searchable database containing details of course-specific assistance and tutoring programs available across the campus.
