Message from the Dean
College of Nursing Dean Leslie K. Robbins, Ph.D., APRN, PMHCNS-BC, PMHNP-BC (NM), FAANP, ANEF
Thank you for reading our spring newsletter! As we celebrate the College of Nursing's 50th anniversary this year, we are excited to share the history of our college and the impact our students, faculty and alumni have made in the community. Since 1976, we’ve graduated over 10,000 nurses and nursing professionals, many who have cared for members of the El Paso community and surrounding region. We hope that recognizing this milestone generates a shared sense of accomplishment in what our college has achieved in five decades!
Upcoming Events
The celebration commenced earlier this year and will continue through the Fall 2026 semester. We hope to see our community members and alumni at events throughout the year, including Nurses Week and Homecoming, culminating with an exciting gala in December!
More than 60% of nurses in El Paso are UTEP graduates, and over 90% of our BSN alumni stay in the region after graduating. We look forward to seeing many of them on campus and out in the community in the coming months, highlighting the impact we have on health care in the region. We could not have made such an impact without our graduates.
Visit our 50th Anniversary website for more details.
50 Voices of Nursing
You can follow the college on Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram, where we're featuring the 50 Voices of Nursing, a year-long initiative that highlights how the college has shaped the professional and personal journeys of 50 remarkable nursing professionals.
These voices have included Amyra Daher, Chief Nursing Officer at University Medical Center; Linda B. Lawson, College of Nursing Advisory Board Chairwoman and retired Chief Nursing Officer at The Hospitals of Providence, and many more. They have generously shared inspiring words and encouragement with our social media followers. We hope this series inspires pride and purpose as we carry on our work and reflect on our purpose.
Raise Your Pick Giving Day
As we prepare for Raise Your Pick Giving Day, we want to highlight the College of Nursing 50th Anniversary campaign, which will help fuel the pipeline from our college to health care roles in our region and beyond.
Your contribution to the College of Nursing 50th Anniversary Fund helps enhance innovative learning environments such as the simulation lab, supports student success, and expands access to a high-quality nursing education for students from our Borderland community and beyond.
Thank you for your support of our college, and we hope to celebrate with you in the coming months.
Be sure to follow us all semester long on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and X.
Go Miners!
