Mission, Vision, and Purpose

The Office of New Student Orientation at UTEP is committed to supporting students as they begin their Miner journey. Our mission is to welcome, prepare, and connect new students and their families to the university by providing meaningful experiences that promote academic readiness, personal growth, and a sense of belonging.

We envision a campus where every new student feels confident and connected from the moment they arrive. Through intentional programming, strong partnerships across campus, and student-centered services, Orientation serves as the first step in creating an environment where Miners are engaged, informed, and ready to thrive throughout their UTEP experience and beyond graduation.

New Student Orientation is more than just an introduction to campus—it is the foundation of a successful college experience. The purpose of orientation is to:

• Introduce students and families to UTEP’s academic expectations, traditions, and values.
• Connect students with faculty, staff, and peers who will support their journey.
• Provide information on resources that promote student success, wellness, and engagement.
• Foster a welcoming community where every student feels they matter and belong.

Through Orientation, students gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to transition successfully into university life and begin their Miner experience with purpose and pride.
