This exhibition marks the ten-year anniversary of AMBOS (Art Made Between Opposite Sides), a femme-led binational artist collaborative founded by Tanya Aguiñiga in 2016. Working along the U.S./Mexico border, AMBOS seeks to express and document border emotion through art made on opposite sides, providing a platform for binational artists and communities whose lives are shaped by daily crossing, separation, and interdependence.

Bringing together projects from the past decade, the exhibition traces the evolution of AMBOS from a border-site activation to a sustained practice rooted in craft, care, documentation, and mutual aid. Through performances, rituals, photography, video, ephemera, and collaborative making, AMBOS has documented the border, fostered connections among artists and communities, and explored identities shaped by the region. From Border Quipu, which gathers the emotions and experiences of those crossing through a collective system of knots, to AMBOS Ceramics, which provides ceramics education and support to LGBTQ+ asylum seekers and migrants in Tijuana, these projects reveal how art and craft can become vehicles for connection, community self-care, and mutual aid.

This anniversary exhibition looks both backward and forward, bringing together the traces of a decade of collective work while presenting the beginning of a new Border Quipu, initiated by AMBOS in El Paso and Ciudad Juárez.
