The Edge Is the Center is a group exhibition that explores the diverse manifestations of graphic design through the work of University of Texas at El Paso alumni whose practices extend across media, scale, and purpose—from murals and packaging to branding and stationery. The exhibition’s title speaks to the practice of design itself, where the creator defines both the edges and the center of their work, and highlights how designers determine their own space of meaning and expression.

Designers shaped by life along the U.S.–Mexico border don’t just navigate boundaries, they redefine them. Their work reflects the movement between cultures, languages, and disciplines, showing how design itself can exist between worlds. From this duality, a bold creative center emerges where hybrid identities thrive; grids are broken, and new forms take shape. This is a celebration of border-based designers who turn edges into origin points and limits into possibilities.

Participating Artists, Designer, and Studios: Edgar Boni Soto, Lorena Mondragon, EME Design Studio, Bradford Maxfield, Rita Beltran, Berenice Mendez, Gabriela Hernandez, and Mario Aguilar.
