2011 Annual Juried UTEP Student Art Exhibition

ABOUT THE STUDENT SHOW


The Annual Juried UTEP Student Art Exhibition is a juried exhibit hosted by the Stanlee and Gerald Rubin Center for the Visual Arts to showcase artwork currently being done by UTEP Undergraduate Art students, it is also a competition where the best of disciplines such as Metals, Printmaking, Ceramics, Drawing, Sculpture, Painting, Graphic Design, and Photography, are awarded. Also awarded are the best of the best within the student show with the Susan Klahr Memorial Award, the Sara & Tom Lea Purchase Award for Best Life Drawing or Life Painting, Arlene Smith McKinnon Award for Overall Best of Show, and the College of Liberal Arts Student Art on Campus purchase Awards.

About the Jurors

Ruth

FINE ARTS: RUTH ESTÉVEZ 
Bilbao, Spain, 1977. Lives in Mexico City.


Since 2007, Ruth Estévez is the Chief Curator of the Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil where she has working  with Mexican and international artist such as: Gabriel Acevedo Velarde, Fernando Ortega, Eduardo Gil, Guy Ben – Ner, Mark Manders, among others. She is founding member of Bancomer-Macg Young Artist Scholarship. Among her recent independent exhibitions are: The mole’s horizon, Palace of Fine Arts, Brussels, Belgium; One foot apart, galeria leme, Sao Paolo, Brasil; Civic Project, El Cubo, Centro Cultural Tijuana, Mexico; Kendell Geers. prayplayprey. opa, Guadalajara and Stefan Demming: Mexico City Limits, Casa del Lago, UNAM, Mexico City. She currently writes for Art Nexus and Flash Art.

Alejandro
DESIGN: ALEJANDRO MAGALLANES 
Mexico City, 1971. Lives in Mexico City.

Alejandro Magallanes graduated from the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plasticas (UNAM) and works as an independent graphic designer since 1994. His posters have been seen all over the world, for example in Paris, Osaka, and Barcelona. He has won awards in Warsaw, Mexico and Kharkov. He is a founding member of the poster groups El Cartel de Medellin, La Corriente Electrica and Fuera de Registro who fight for peace and justice, for the Zapatistas and the Women of Juarez.
