The Rubin Center was proud to present the 2017 Annual Juried UTEP Student Art Exhibition, showcasing works of art and design created by undergraduate students enrolled in the Department of Art during the 2016 – 2017 academic year. All media taught in the department is represented, including painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, metals and graphic design.

Parisa Tashakori

Parisa Tashakori, Iranian graphic designer, art director and curator, was born in Tehran, Iran.
She has collaborated as designer and art director for several international advertising agencies and cultural institutions. Tashakori was a member of the board of the Iranian Graphic Designers Society (IGDS) and was in charge of the society exhibition section from 2012 to 2015.
Parisa’s works has been exhibited over than 70 international exhibitions in various countries and has received some international awards including, COW! festival In Ukraine, Ekoplagat in Slovakia, Tehran poster biennial, Ukraine Ecoposter triennial 4thBlock, among others.
She has been member of the jury for numerous national and international competition and festivals like, Samsun International Poster Competition in Turkey, 13th Poster biennial in Mexico, “Segunda Llamada” in Mexico, “Posterfortomorrow” in France, “Anti -AIDS” in Ukraine and many events in Iran as well.
Tashakori has organized and carried out various cultural projects and workshops, individually or jointly with her friends, the most important of which include: Poland Graphic Design Week in two cities of Iran, Tehran-Taipei collective poster exhibition in Taiwan, Vitrine: A historical exhibition of Iranian book cover designs, 2nd IGDS museum exhibition (selection of old Iranian theatre posters), Divarkoob: poster exhibition in 5 cities of Iran.

Steven Randall

Steven Randall is an interdisciplinary artist working with sculpture, photography and installation to examine the relationship between consumer, commodity, and transformation. Within a culture of feverish consumption and retinal impatience, he often employs a meticulously manufactured realism to recreate “fast” objects by the slowest means possible. His most recent body of work explores the boundaries between perceived symbols of interior and exterior spaces. His work has been selected for exhibitions at various galleries in Richmond, Buffalo, New York, New Orleans, Aspen, Connecticut, and Beijing. Steven is the recipient of the Toby Devin Lewis Fellowship Award, a Sculpture Fellowship through the Virginia Commission for the Arts, and a Graduate Research Grant through Virginia Commonwealth University. He has worked as an art handler, screen printer, high school art teacher, and research assistant at the Metropolitan Museum of Art where he conducted tours of the museum’s collection and worked in the publishing department. He received his MFA in Sculpture + Extended Media from Virginia Commonwealth University, and is currently the Artist in Residence at the Border Arts Residency in La Union, New Mexico.
