Rubin and L Galleries
May 31 - September 22, 2007
Curated by Joachim Homann
This exhibition was the first in the United States to bring together objects from all phases of Toledo's career and in almost all media the artist has employed, including paintings, prints, ceramic sculptures, and a tapestry designed by him. Earlier exhibitions in this country were focused on specific projects or media, curtailing the audiences' understanding of the artist's versatility. The only retrospective of Toledo's work outside of Mexico was held in 2000-2001 in London's Whitechapel Art Gallery and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid. Several works in this exhibition had never been seen publicly; others, such as the recent ceramic objects, had not been shown in the United States before.
