Enrique Jezik Performance From the Opening Night

In  Lines of Division multi-media artist Enrique Jezik addressed five political borders of conflict: Mexico/USA, Argentina/Paraguay/Brazil, Israel/Palestine, North/South Korea, Afghanistan/Pakistan. Jezik  “drew” these borders with a chainsaw on the evening of the opening reception. Video footage referencing surveillance at each of these borders was part of the sculpted plywood remnants of this performance. In format and presentation  Lines of Division was aligned with Jezik’s previous piece about airports that accommodate NATO activity, Estreno de la Otan.

Enrique Jezik (b. 1961, Cordoba, Argentina; resides Mexico City) has exhibited widely in Latin America and Europe.  Lines of Division was his first solo exhibition in the United States. Jezik was in residence in El Paso for a week beginning January 20 preparing the exhibition and meeting with UTEP students.
