Carmen Cebreros Urzaiz (México DF, 1977) is a PhD candidate in Culture and Performance at the University of California Los Angeles, curator, researcher, and educator. She holds an MA in Curating (Goldsmiths College-University of London). She curated May Your Eyes Stay Open, a solo show by Claudia López Terroso (Museum of Contemporary Art of Oaxaca, 2017); Sonora, exhibition of the guest state at IV Salón ACME (CDMX); Radio Concert(performance at Radio UNAM) and Radio Memories (sound installation and performance at Casa Vecina Cultural Space), both projects by Brandon LaBelle (CDMX, 2008); and Sir John Soane Audioguide Project, in collaboration with Claudia Rodríguez-Ponga, PhD (2005). She was the curatorial coordinator of the educational program for artists for the second edition of the Contemporary Art Program/MACG-BBVA Bancomer (2010-2012). She curated the exhibition The Endless Cycle of Idea and Action (Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil, Museo de Arte de Ciudad Juárez, and Museo de Arte de Nogales, Sonora, 2012). She is also writer and co-editor of the catalog that accompanied this exhibition. She served as registrar, archivist, and coordinator of special projects at kurimanzutto Gallery (CDMX, 2007-2010). Cebreros has designed and taught seminars and workshops about curatorial practice and museum studies at CASA (2017), the Autonomous University of Baja California (2013), and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (2007-2009). She has designed curricula and workshops for artists for CASA, CEACO-La Curtiduría and Taller Tamayo (Oaxaca), the Independent Program of Photography (CDMX and Tijuana), the Museum of Art and the Institute of Culture (Sonora). She has also taught at UCLA, the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Printmaking “La Esmeralda,” and SOMA Mexico. She has been awarded the Fulbright-García Robles Scholarship, the Alßan Program of European Union, the Elaine Krown Klein Scholarship (School of the Arts and Architecture-UCLA), UC Mexus, and the Phi Beta Kappa Scholarship for International Students of Southern California (2017). More recently, Cebreros’ proposal for a Curating Summer Course received the PADID 2017 Award by the National Center for the Arts (Support for Teaching, Research, and Dissemination of the Arts, in the category “Design and implementation of innovative programs of education”) to conduct this project at the Center for the Arts at San Agustin (CASA, Oaxaca) in July and August-2018.
