ABOUT THE EXHIBIT:

In this exhibition Sean Caulfield presented mixed-media drawings inspired by technical scientific language. For the past several years, the artist has been in conversation with bio-ethicists and stem-cell researchers and developed imagery based on those conversations.

Caulfield's original artwork explores the complicated legal, ethical, and social anxieties associated with advances in biotechnology, such as stem cell research, genetic selection of offspring, and genetic testing.

Themes and questions emerge from these prints and mixed media drawings by exploring the relationship between scientific and creative research. His artwork also plays the role of critiquing these concerns in biomedical technologies, especially when these advancements in science begin to blur the ethical boundaries.
