Máximo Gonzalez: Magnificent Warning

January 24, 2013 - March 15, 2013
L Gallery

Magnificent Warning presents the work of Máximo González, an Argentinean artist best known for his use of devalued currencies and traditional craft techniques to explore complex issues of globalization, militarization, and economic exchange. Many of his pieces incorporate banknotes that have been altered, drawn upon, or woven together to form large-scale installations. González has also created installations from colored light bulbs, slingshots, shredded paper, and other found or recycled objects. His choice of media encourages people to consider the values we assign different objects and the ways in which those values change when the objects are discarded. Magnificent Warning additionally features a site-specific work commissioned by the Rubin Center. Hundreds of lit elements hang from the ceiling of the atrium, transforming the space into a spectacle of light and color
