New Work by Vincent Burke

Project Space
March 3 - June 16. 2005

Vincent Burke's work employs a variety of media, including plastic, foam, fabric and paint, all of which appear to be something other than what they are. Subjective Mythologies (Restoration Landscape), for example, appears to be metal, but is actually foam. By masking his materials with saturated colors and faux metals surfaces, Burke forces us to question what we think we see and know. Forms that reference inflatable balls and bubbles convey joy and wonder. His constructed world becomes our playground, where we discover new ways of thinking and being.

Vincent Burke is assistant professor of art at UTEP. He earned his M.F.A. from Louisiana State University and his B.A. in art history from Carleton College.
