Ramirez is an El Paso native and former UTEP art student. Seriously Playful is Ramirez's first solo exhibition in his hometown since he relocated to Brooklyn, New York. It is also the first survey of the artist's creative output since he began exhibiting in New York City and includes paintings and sculptures from multiple private collections. Ramirez and his assistant created a site-specific painted component that connects each of these works to one another and to the interior architecture of the Rubin Gallery. This attention to the site, along with a sound element composed by the artist in collaboration with musician So Takahashi, results in the viewer becoming part of the work.
