Born out of the desire to share a growing body of site-specific work at the Rio Bosque Wetlands Park, shapeshifters is a short screen dance film that threads a nonlinear narrative deeply questioning the impact of the border wall and the channelization of Paslápaane (the Rio Grande River) through an interspecies lens. The choreography by Sandra Paola seamlessly blends her training on physical improvisation, LatinAmerican vernacular dances and postmodern dance. Whimsical, thoughtful, dream-like and provocative, the film centers a hopeful-futuristic narrative that encourages viewers to boldly imagine new eco-narratives in the borderlands.
