We have a lot of exciting updates across the college, notably in our Department of Earth, Environmental and Resources Sciences (DEERS), formerly known as Geological Sciences.
Igor Almeida, D.Sc., UTEP professor of biological sciences, has been elected to the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, a prestigious honor typically reserved for scientists living and working in Brazil.
The College of Science is at the forefront in science innovation and cutting-edge research. For students whose dream career is working in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics or environmental science, we can help them realize that reality.
Our College of Science students are provided with significant research resources, high-end instrumentation, supplies and outstanding faculty mentors to guide them on their journey of becoming the next generation of medical scientists, clinicians and pharmacists.
This will allow them to showcase their research, share new ideas and develop new insight into therapies that may be used to treat everyone. With your gift, our students will be able to follow their passions and support the future of our world with new therapeutic strategies that we have yet to think of.
Data science and informatics are rapidly evolving fields of science and mathematics that are in high demand. They combine mathematics, computing, statistics and modeling to solve complex challenges required for data-driven industries.
Graduates with these skills will find top-paying jobs in technology, government, banking, healthcare and research-intensive businesses to make important discoveries, create disruptive innovations, and reduce manufacturing time and costs to optimize important operations.
With your support, our students will be better prepared for their dream jobs through greater access to scholarship funding, as well as access to cutting-edge software and computing technologies with direct application to their research programs.
Our country and the world are more dependent on strategic and sustainable resources such as water, air, fuels, critical minerals, and manufacturing materials like never before in our history. The job market in these fast-growing areas represents unlimited career opportunities for our graduates.
The graduate students in this field will require training in an inter-disciplinary setting that provides them with the resources, laboratory and field research environment to make these discoveries at UTEP that will allow them to transition into 21st century industries to apply their skills.
With your support, our students will be able to work within a virtual world to seamlessly bring together the knowledge of supply chains and materials and support the transition to renewable energy, thereby reducing our dependence on foreign materials necessary for national security and defense.
