Where Do I Apply?
Applications will only be accepted electronically. The application form can be found here.
When are applications due?
The entire application package must be completed and received by 5 pm MST on March 13, 2020.
What are the minimum requirements for acceptance to the program?
- Submission of a complete application, including letters of recommendation and transcripts, before 5 pm on March 13, 2020, MST.
- Undergraduates must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Preference will be given to rising Juniors and Seniors, but outstanding applications from rising Sophomores will also be considered. You are not eligible if you will be completing a baccalaureate degree by the end of Spring or Summer 2020.
- Proof of health insurance before 5 pm on March 15, 2020, MST.
How can my professors submit the recommendation forms?
Upon successful completion of your online application, we will send instructions and the reference form to your professors. Make sure you follow up with your references to ensure timely submission.
How do I know that my application package is complete?
You should receive a confirmation email of your submission and you should follow up with your references. If you sent separate documentation please contact us at cdb-reu@utep.edu

What are the program dates?
The program begins May 27 and ends August 2, 2020. Students are expected to arrive in El Paso on Monday, May 26 and depart on Sunday, August 3.
What will I have to do if I am accepted to the program?
- Actively participate in research program for 40+ hours per week
- Spend 2-3 days/week conducting field studies at Indio Mountains Research Station
- Present project results at the end-of-summer symposium
- Attend workshops and seminars
- Complete all safety and laboratory training requirements
What financial support will I recieve?
All program participants will receive approximately $5,500 for the 10-week program plus accommodations in shared apartments.
Note: some meals and snacks will be provided on symposium and workshop days, but you will be expected to support your own daily expenses for food, recreation, etc.
