ABOUT

The Iridia Laser Ablation system is designed to remove microscopic particles from solid materials (e.g., rock, mineral, glass, fossil) using a narrowly focused pulsed laser. The removed particles are carried in a stream of inert gas (e.g., helium) to an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICPMS), which measures elemental and isotopic concentrations. It can be used to make point analyses, line scans, depth profiles, or maps produced by rastering the laser back and forth over a specific area.

FEATURES
