El Paso Geological Society
We promote the geology of El Paso and surrounding areas through fieldtrips, books, guides, and outreach programs. Local fieldtrips, such as the annual Celebration of Our Mountains, allow for 'hands-on' learning of the appearances, structures, and processes that comprise the geology of the Chihuahuan desert (including its rivers, mountains, caves, canyons, and more). Books and guides are published on areas of interest, such as the Franklin mountains, Sierra de Juarez, and Florida mountains; we also publish on issues concerning the locality, such as mineral exploration and nuclear waste disposal. We support outreach programs that introduce the Earth, Environmental and Resource Sciences to community and schools.
