Military Tuition Assistance (Federal and State)
Federal Tuition Assistance
If you are currently serving in the military, you may be eligible for funding offered through the Department of Defense Tuition Assistance program (also known as Federal Tuition Assistance).
Federal Tuition Assistance is a benefit paid to eligible members of the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy. The Department of Defense (DoD) has given each service the ability to pay up to $250 per semester credit hour of the actual cost of tuition (does not include fees) during the fiscal year (1 October – 30 September). Each service has its own criteria for eligibility, obligated service, application process, and restrictions. Check with your respective Service/Branch Education Office for eligibility and enrollment requirements.
Please select your branch of service for more information. Prior to enrolling, speak with your Education Office to ensure you make an informed decision.
UTEP complies with all requirements of the Department of Defense Voluntary Education Partnership Memorandum of Understanding. Students wishing to use Tuition Assistance at UTEP should also contact the MSSC Fort Bliss Counselor.
Per DoD Tuition Assistance requirements, TA must be requested and approved prior to the start date of the each term. Service members can register for classes prior to securing TA but they will be solely responsible for all tuition costs until approval is obtained from their military service branch and the proper documents are submitted to the university. Only courses listed in the service member’s evaluated education plan/degree pan will be approved for TA.
State Tuition Assistance
Funded by the State of Texas, the State Tuition Assistance Program is an education benefit that provides money for college to eligible members of the Texas Military Department pursuing their educational and career goals. This benefit is available to active drilling members (not AGR) of any of the 3 following Texas components:
- Texas Army National Guard (TXARNG)
- Texas Air National Guard (TXANG)
- Texas State Guard (TXSG)
