ABOUT OIP

The Office of International Programs (OIP) collaborates with academic and administrative partners across UTEP's colleges to enhance the success of the university's international community. Serving as a hub for international student and scholar support, OIP plays a crucial role in promoting cultural awareness, providing programming, services, and outreach opportunities.

In addition to fostering a diverse campus environment, OIP is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal regulations and guiding international clients in fulfilling their respective obligations. In summary, OIP is a key facilitator in strengthening the international presence and impact of UTEP.

FUNCTIONS

  • Provide immigration guidance for F-1 students, including maintaining status, travel requirements, SEVIS compliance, and document requests (I-20s, travel signatures, CPT/OPT processing).
  • Support students through advising—both virtual and in-person—for case-specific questions, employment authorization, and border commuter guidance.

ONLINE SERVICES

OIP uses Sunapsis to manage profiles, review and update F-1 and J-1 data, and respond to student requests. All F-1 and J-1 international students must submit their service requests through Sunapsis.

Virtual Walk-In Advising

OIP offers virtual walk-in advising on a first-come, first-served basis. During these sessions, students may speak with an international student advisor for brief, case-specific assistance.
