WALKING WITH WORDSWORTH: ROMANTIC LITERATURE IN THE LAKE DISTRICT, U.K.
During the course we will stay in Greta Hall in Keswick, the home of Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Robert Southey; read and discuss poetry by candlelight in charming Dove Cottage, Wordsworth’s home in Grasmere for eight years; picnic at Blea Tarn, the setting of Wordsworth’s Excursion; take short rambles to numerous locales that informed Wordsworth’s and others’ writing, including Greenhead Ghyll, Rydal Water, Buttermere, Dungeon Ghyll Force, Aira Force, Ullswater, and Easedale; and spend 3 days working in the archives of the Wordsworth Trust in Grasmere, the world’s foremost collection of rare books and manuscripts relating to the Wordsworth circle.
Course
Students will take the course English 3301 with Professor Dr. Tom Schmid, Director of Literature.
Eligibility Requirements
Pre-requisites: RWS 1301-1302 and ENGL 1313. Undergraduate and graduate students. No minimum GPA.
