Senator of the Month
Mario Diaz is a Senator At- Large for the Student Government Association (SGA) at the University of Texas at El Paso. Senator Diaz is currently majoring in Nursing and aspires to work for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs upon graduation. On his spare time, Senator Diaz enjoys playing video games with his little brother and is a brother in the Omega Delta Phi Fraternity Inc. On campus, Senator Diaz is involved with the Center for Accommodations and Support Services and the Military Student Success Center. Senator Diaz decided to join SGA to help military students. His goal is to get more military affiliated students involved on campus. Senator Diaz was awarded the Senator of the Month Award for the month of June due to his outstanding work ethic. Senator Diaz was quick to take up the position of chair for the Student Application Review Committee (SARC) and Special Events Committee. In SARC, he ensured that all positions needed to be filled were filled accordingly before the start of the fall semester. In the Special Events Committee, he was quick to plan the logistics for the upcoming Homecoming Pageant. Aside from his contribution to the committees, he has also begun working on his special project for the fall semester. Senator Diaz is planning a car show specifically targeting the military affiliated students on campus, set to take place on September 15, 2018. More details on his special project are here. Collegiate Senator of Education
Everlyn Ramirez is the Collegiate Senator for the College of Education for the Student Government Association (SGA) at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). Senator Ramirez is currently majoring in Education with a concentration on Early Childhood to 6th grade. Senator Ramirez aspires to become a 4th grade teacher in a low socioeconomic community and one day become the Secretary of Education for the United States. On her free time aside from school, she enjoys arts and crafts, watching movies, and spending time in craft stores and at home. At UTEP she is involved with the Texas State Teacher Association- Aspiring Educators organization where she serves as the membership chair. Senator Ramirez' motivation for joining SGA was the students. She wants to share her love and pride for the university and college and wants to represent the students in our community. Her personal goal for SGA is to continue to grow as a leader. Senator Ramirez hopes to bring a new attitude and passion for the College of Education and more opportunities for students to network. Senator Ramirez was awarded this for her advocacy and passion to her college. Her effort in the Excel Committee as Chair had tremendously helped set a strong foundation for future administrations. Jacqueline Renteria & Brandon Soto
Jacqueline Renteria is a Senator At- Large for the Student Government Association (SGA) at the University of Texas at El Paso. Senator Renteria is currently majoring in Business Marketing. Brandon Soto is a Senator At-Large for the Student Government Association (SGA) at the University of Texas at El Paso. Senator Soto is a Health Science Kineseology major. Both senators worked extremely hard during the month of August to ensure that Welcome Week went smooth. They also worked together to unite student organizations at their Taco Pre-Game special project. We would like to thank Senator Renteria and Senator Soto for all of their dedication and work this month.
Yoselin Negrete is a Senator At-Large for the Student Government Association (SGA) at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). Senator Negrete is currently majoring in Political Science. Her passion for voter initiatives was brought upon SGA. Senator Negrete created a special project on National Voter Registration Day to encourage students to register to vote on campus. Her diligent work in contacting organizations to take part in this event and even having live music at the event made it a huge success. Senator Negrete portrayed SGA's vision and purpose through this project. We would like to thank Senator Negrete for her amazing contributions to SGA and the UTEP Community.
