Vision
The University of Texas at El Paso Interdisciplinary Health Sciences (IHS) PhD Program will provide students with the highest standards of doctoral-level training to prepare them to assume key positions in academia, research, and clinical practice to address complex health disparities in the U.S.-Mexico border region and beyond.
Mission
To prepare graduates of the IHS PhD Program with the commitment, knowledge, and skills to address complex health issues facing individuals, families, and communities in the border region, across the country, and abroad in an ethically and empirically grounded manner.
Our graduates will be able to:
- Approach health care issues from multiple perspectives and through the integration of knowledge from multiple professions
- Conduct research across health professions to further knowledge and accelerate solutions to address complex and chronic health issues, particularly health disparities and other issues critical in the U.S.-Mexico border region
- Perform the academic responsibilities of teaching, research and service with the highest level of professionalism, sensitivity to cultural diversity, and integrity
