How to Apply
Undergraduate Application Process
The application process is handled online and the packet consists of:- A complete online application form
- Two completed recommendation forms
- As part of the recommendation form references will be asked to assess your overall ability to perform research, scientific curiosity, presentation skills, and work habits (as they relate to scholarly endeavors)
- Two Recommendation letters (signed and on official letterhead and uploaded through the SMARTMIND application portal)
Note: professors will not be emailed the web link and instructions to complete the recommendation form until after the applicant has submitted a complete application.
- Proof of health insurance coverage (uploadable as a pdf in the application form)
- An Unofficial transcript
- Select up to three mentors in the ranking order they would like to work with them over the summer. Note that your first choice is not guaranteed.
- Write a personal statement that demonstrates a mature interest in science, describes your motivation to participate in this program, and the impact that participation in research experience may have in your education and future career plans.
High School Teacher Application Process
The application process is handled online and the packet consists of:- Complete online application form
- Two recommendation forms. One from his/her school Principal and one from his/her Department Chair (signed and printed on official letterhead uploaded as PDF by the recommender via the SMARTMIND application portal
Note: recommenders will not be emailed the web link to complete the recommendation form until after the applicant has submitted a complete application.- Proof of health insurance coverage (uploadable as a pdf in the application form)
- Teacher Resume (upload as PDF in the application form)
- Select up to three mentors in ranking order you would like to work with over the summer. Please note first choice is not guaranteed.
- Write a personal statement that demonstrates a mature interest in science, describes your motivation to participate in this program, and the impact that this experience may have in your future teaching plans.
