Program Overview

The Addiction Studies Minor provides students with a comprehensive understanding of addiction, encompassing its biological, psychological, social, and cultural dimensions.

This program is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the challenges of addiction across a variety of professional settings.

The curriculum is structured to meet the educational requirements for Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors (LCDC) in Texas when paired with a related major.

Students enrolled in non-related majors may be required to complete additional coursework to meet LCDC eligibility requirements.

The program also includes cross-listed graduate-level courses that may be applied toward future graduate counseling programs.

Note: Related majors typically include counseling, psychology, sociology, or fields related to human behavior and development.

Fast Track Option

The Fast Track option allows undergraduate students to take graduate-level courses that can be applied toward a future graduate degree in counseling.

This pathway provides an accelerated route for students to begin graduate coursework while completing their undergraduate program.

Admission Requirements

The Addiction Studies Minor is open to students from all academic majors.

  • Students must be in good academic standing
  • Students should consult with an academic advisor to ensure course alignment with LCDC requirements
  • Students in non-related majors may need additional coursework to qualify for licensure

For students pursuing the fast-track option, eligibility requirements for graduate-level coursework must be met in accordance with university policies.
