Opportunities for Fellows
The AMPLIFY Institute aims to foster a community of engineering instructional faculty who are committed to leadership and educational change at their Hispanic Serving Institution.
Former attendees of the AMPLIFY Institutes are invited to apply to become an AMPLIFY Mentor, or an AMPLIFY Coach for our upcoming iteration in El Paso, TX.
AMPLIFY Mentor

As an AMPLIFY mentor, you will provide guidance, feedback, and support to the AMPLIFY cohort. You will brainstorm ways fellows can identify, develop, and implement a change project at their institution, helping them build awareness, identify resources, and leverage them efficiently for meaningful change. You are also expected to share your experience with effective teaching strategies that enhance student learning and guide participants in creating a welcoming learning environment.
If you choose to apply for this opportunity, you will engage in the following efforts throughout the Fall semester:
- 2 hours (virtual): Participate in an interactive, train-the-trainer session before kick-off workshop (early September)
- 2 days, plus time for travel (in person): Attend and participate in the AMPLIFY Institute in El-Paso, Texas, hosted on September 26-27, 2024. Activities will include supporting facilitation, connecting with fellows, sharing your experience and facilitating conversations around mentorship, and attending meetings/working groups to debrief feedback on the workshop.
- 2 hours (virtual): Plan, design, and implement a form of community or mentoring activity hosted at the mid-point of the group coaching sessions.
- 2 hours (virtual): Participate in the celebration for the Texas cohort.
- 1 hour (reflection): Provide feedback on the role of an AMPLIFY mentor.
Upon acceptance of this position, and completion of mentorship activities you will receive:
- A stipend of $1,250 to travel to UTEP, Texas, after attending the workshop.
- A $500 stipend, after completion of the Fall activities.

AMPLIFY Coach
As an AMPLIFY coach, you will support fellows to seek answers within themselves towards the development of their change project. AMPLIFY coaches will be collaborating alongside fellows, guiding and empowering them to overcome obstacles and seize new possibilities. This role requires a shift from advice-giving approaches (like mentoring or consulting) and supports fellows in accountability towards the goals of the institute.
If you choose to apply for this opportunity, you will engage in the following efforts throughout the Fall semester:
- 2 hours (virtual): Participate in an onboarding session before the kick-off workshop (early September), to meet fellow coaches and become familiar with the curriculum.
- 2 days, plus time for travel (in-person): Attend and participate in the AMPLIFY Institute in El-Paso, Texas, hosted on September 26-27, 2024. Activities will include supporting facilitation, connecting with fellows, and facilitating coaching activities.
- 14 hours of coaching (virtual): Prepare for and lead seven coaching sessions.
- 5 hours of coaching support (virtual): Activities will include scheduling the sessions, reviewing the coaching curriculum for the session, writing coach memos, and posting accountability reminders, and recordings.
- 2 hours (virtual): Attend the celebration for the Texas cohort.
- 1 hour (reflection): Provide your feedback on the role of an AMPLIFY coach.
Upon acceptance of this position, and completion of coaching activities you will receive:
- Up to $1,500 towards coach training completed by August 31, 2024. This will include 22 synchronous core competency training hours, with programming approved and paid to the provider by the AMPLIFY project team.
- A stipend of $1,250 to travel to UTEP, Texas, after attending the workshop.
- A $3500 stipend, after completion of the Fall activities.
