Message from the Chair
Welcome to The University of Texas at El Paso's Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Department website. The Department offers a Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering, a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace and Aeronautical Engineering, a Master's of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering.
Major areas of expertise within the Department include: energy engineering, aerospace and defense systems, and biomedical and manufacturing engineering. In addition, students will engage in a variety of research opportunities in low carbon energy conversion engineering, advanced propulsion, 3D manufacturing, and tissue engineering, which are the Mechanical Engineering's major research themes. Many of the Departments research projects are sponsored by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Department of Energy, Department of Defense, National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, and various industrial partners.
The Department's research facilities enable our students to have financial aid support through research assistantships, student work study positions, fellowships, and scholarships. Several major research facilities that support these opportunities are the Aerospace Center, W. M. Keck Center for 3D Innovation, Biomedical Engineering research facilities and a new design studio for design innovation and entrepreneurship. Each facility provides a unique field of study and perspective in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering.
Our graduates leave UTEP for successful careers in automotive, aerospace, defense, energy, and manufacturing industries; product development; NASA; DOD laboratories; and academic positions.
We look forward to working with you in the future!
Yirong Lin, Ph.D.
Interim Chair, Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering
