Welcome
Thank you for your interest in the University Honors Program (UHP). UTEP Honors introduces undergraduate students to a rigorous and enriched academic experience, with opportunities to develop close working relationships with professors and peers dedicated to knowledge, research and intellectual curiosity. Honors students engage in campus, community or global activities beyond the classroom, fostering discovery with the support to excel toward their academic and professional aspirations. Eligible students interested in pursuing an honors education can select to participate in this dynamic program in several different ways. You can read about the different honors program pathways to an Honors Degree here.
Simply put, we would like to welcome you. I can tell you that at the core of the program that we strive to involve you in an ideal set of experiences that will best prepare you for next steps and lifelong success.
Mission

In this way, UTEP Honors students are prepared to excel within and beyond their professional fields. The program incorporates high impact interdisciplinary practices that include structured advising, team-based projects, research and creative activities, service engagement, and professional experiences. Each college will tailor the experiences to the specific professional and personal needs of each student.

Why Join?
Joining the honors program is an accomplishment that you can not only be proud of, but will benefit you in multiple ways. Let me explain,
- Remaining active in the UHP is a resume builder. If you are an active member in the UHP you are actively engaged in at least 1 UTEP EDGE experience (see description below) per year. That means that you can proudly say you are an active member of the UHP and are active on campus, a double benefit!
- You are part of an Honors Community. The UHP does not work alone. The UHP is closely involved with Phi Kappa Phi, Alpha Chi, and the University Honors Council. When you join, you are part of a group of exceptional students that will have opportunities to network with each other during the year. This opens up opportunities to work across disciplines, collaborate, and build friendships.
- As part of the UHP you are eligible for scholarships only accessible to UHP members. Applying is free and the process is very straight forward. In addition, we will encourage you to join other honor societies and make you aware of scholarships available by being members of those other programs.
- The UHP attends national honors conferences every year. Although we can’t take everyone, we will let you know about these opportunities to present your work and possibly publish.
