1) How do I initiate the request for an H-1B and/or (LPR) Lawful Permanent Residence process?

Hiring Departments must initiate the request via Visa Petition-Sponsorship Request. Please ensure all information provided is accurate and submit the request.

2) What documents should I carry when traveling internationally?

When traveling outside the US we recommend to have the following documents:

Original I-797

Certified Documents of H1-B petition filed with USCIS

Valid unexpired passport

Valid unexpired visa

I-94

Verification of Employment Letter

3) How can I track the progress of my case with USCIS?

If you have a pending case filed with USCIS and have received a receipt notice. You may use USCIS Case Status Online link below to track the status of an immigration application, petition, or request.

4) How soon should I start working on extending my H-1B status?

It's recommended to initiate the request to extend the H-1B status at least 8-9 months prior to the current expiration date. Please email hrimmigration@utep.edu for any questions.
