US Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) Employment Based
Description
The University of Texas at El Paso sponsors only selected employment based permanent resident visa petitions.
Important: All employment-based petitions filed on behalf of The University of Texas at El Paso must be submitted by an approved Immigration attorney contracted through UTEP.

Employees must be on a valid H-1B status prior to initiating LPR request (visit the H1-B section to learn more of H-1B requirements)
Hiring Departments must initiate the request via Visa Petition-Sponsorship Request. Please ensure all information provided is accurate and submit the request.
Sponsorship for staff positions will be fully funded by the hiring department.
Standard processing time for an LPR application is a minimum of two years. We recommend to initiate the process prior to the 4th year of H1-B status to avoid any interruptions in the employees work eligibility.
USCIS offers Premium Processing for I-140 petitions, wherein the case is guaranteed to be adjudicated within 15 business days of receipt. This does not guarantee the case will be approved. The fee for this expedite service is $2,965.00 and can be paid by either the hiring department or employee. Please note Premium Processing does not expedite HR- Immigration processing times.
If applicable Hiring Departments/College will be responsible to cover all fees related to the employees LPR application.

- Employee is responsible for filing and fee's associated to the I-485 process Adjustment of Status.
- Dependent -485 filing fees
- Other associated fees that are associated to I-485 process
All fees listed above are subject to change based on increments established by USCIS (filing fees) or Immigration Law Firm (legal fees).
