Welcome to the Onboarding Center!
Welcome and congratulations on your new position with the University of Texas at El Paso! The staff in the Onboarding Center are committed to guiding and supporting you throughout the onboarding process to ensure that your transition to the UTEP family is as smooth as possible.
This website provides you with resources to prepare you to join the Miner family.
What is onboarding?
Onboarding is the process that a new hire goes through that begins with accepting the offer, through and beyond your first day of employment, including employment paperwork and providing you with the tools you need to begin your new position at UTEP.
Helpful Information for New Hires
As on many large campuses, parking can be challenging and limited. Taking your Offer Letter to the Parking & Transportation Services (PTS) office will allow you to get a temporary parking pass, and get to know the campus better, if you are not already familiar with it. This temporary pass will only be good for ten days though, so please plan to select a permanent parking solution, if needed.PTS Location.........Mike Loya Academic Services Building, Room 122 (bldg. #38 on the attached map)
PTS Contact Info...915-747-5800 firstname.lastname@example.org
Email and computer access
When your job record is created in the UTEP computer system, electronic credentials are created so you may log in to University systems (both computer and online portals). These are generated automatically, but you will need to call the UTEP Help Desk in order to verify information by phone, before you can use these credentials for the first time. These credentials are created 48 hours after your Job Record has been created. Human Resources sends your employee ID to your Supervisor, and that’s when the clock starts. HelpDesk can be reached at 915-747-4357 or “HELP” from a campus phone
Miner Gold Card
UTEP’s employees are issued an Employee ID badge called your Miner Gold Card. In order to obtain your Card, you will need to visit the Miner Gold Card office. You can call the office before you go, to make sure your name is in the system for them to process. They will take your picture and print your card within 5 minutes. Besides being used for access to buildings/rooms, this card can get you discounts and used for meal plans.Miner Gold Card Office......915-747-7334

Direct Deposit and Updating Personal Information
To set up Direct Deposit for your paycheck, or to update personal information such as your address or phone number, you will need to log-in to PeopleSoft. Access to this system must be requested by your Department, and is typically active within 5 days of your start date. You can login to this system on campus at the following page: PeopleSoft.UTEP.edu
Setting up Benefits
While medical coverage for full-time employees is effective on the first day of employment, you will need to make an appointment with your designated Benefits Representative to make additional elections to your coverage or determine if you qualify for other retirement options. Once you attend your New Employee Orientation, you can email Benefits@utep.edu to request that 30 minute meeting. Please indicate which Department you work for, and your Representative will respond. PLEASE NOTE: You must complete this meeting within 30 days of your effective start date, if you wish to make any additional elections.
You will be receiving invitations to complete Equal Opportunity training. These short, online courses are customized for the role you will be working in, and must be completed by the specified deadline on the invitation.
Employee Assistance Program
An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides free and confidential assessments, short-term counseling, referrals, prevention, and education services for you and your dependents. UTEP uses Deer Oaks EAP Services for its employees. EAP’s can provide Short-term counseling, Crisis Intervention, Health & Wellness education, Substance abuse services, Leadership training, and many other services. They can address Legal or Financial concerns, Trauma Recovery, Marital/family problems, and other problems.Website.......www.deeroakseap.com
