Congratulations on your new position with the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).
Welcome to UTEP an emerging institution and workplace of choice. Below is a step by step guide that will assist you as you begin to work at the university.
Before your first day
Pre-Employment Screenings
Employment at UTEP is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check prior to offer date. Your department’s Business Center representative will process the necessary forms to complete the screening.
Pre-Employment Paperwork
The New hire Paperwork will be sent from the Office of Human Resources. The new hire employee will need to complete the following its.
- New Hire Paperwork sent via Docusign
- I-9 Work Authorization Documents
- Completed I-9 form, section 1
- Signed Offer Letter (If Applicable)

Parking Permit
In order to acquire your parking permit, present your offer letter via walk-in or through email to the Office of Parking and Transportation.

After your first day
New Employee Orientation
New Employee Orientation is designed as a transition for new employees into the UTEP workforce and provides resources that support employee success. New Employee Orientation is required within the first 30 days of employment and is usually held on the first and third Monday of every month. New Employee Orientation begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. and will end at approximately 12:00 p.m. The orientation is held at the Union East (Building #24), it is located on University Ave. The orientation will take place in the Andesite Conference room B102. During this orientation, departments within the university will be presenting important information about the organization’s infrastructure. Participation in this event satisfies various compliance training requirements.

During your visit to Human Resources you will be provided with a Group Benefits Handbook. Please note that benefits elections must be made within the first 30 days of employment.
If you plan to enroll any dependents, please bring copies of the following supporting documents:
- If married and planning to enroll your spouse: Marriage certificate, date of birth, and social security number are needed.
- If adding child(ren): Birth certificate(s) and social security number(s) are needed
Obtain your EMPLoyee ID
Your department will receive your Employee ID once you have an active appointment in our internal systems. If you have previously been employed at UTEP, you may already have a Employee ID.
