Health Psychology Alumni
The alumni of our Health Psychology PhD program are the primary selling point of our program. Many of our graduates accept post-doctoral research fellowships upon graduation, which have included positions at the University of California at San Francisco, Medical College of Wisconsin, National Institutes of Health, University of Buffalo, and the University of New Mexico. Our former graduate students are now faculty members at many universities including City University of New York – Hunter College, UTEP College of Pharmacy, Montana State University, Northern Arizona University, Ohio University Department of Primary Care and UT Rio Grande Valley, – New Mexico State University Department of Public Health Sciences and Universidad Autonoma de Chihuahua, among others. Four of our former students are Lead Principal Investigators of prestigious R01 grants from the National Institutes of Health, and another former student is Principal Investigator of a K99 award from the National Institutes of Health.
Our former students have also pursued careers outside of academia and have been very successful. Former students currently work for Blue Cross Blue Shield Idaho, as Vice President of Research, Accreditation & Planning, El Paso Community College, UTEP’s Center of Institutional Evaluation Research and Planning, University of New Mexico Prevention Research Center, Texas Tech University Health Science Center, Centers for Disease Control, Food and Drug Administration, University of New Mexico Hospitals, among others.
The training you will receive in health psychology will position you for a career in health psychology and health disparities. Our training of students is collaborative, and we encourage our students to seek opportunities within the area, within the department, and within our US-Mexico border environment to complement the course of study in Health Psychology at UT-El Paso.
