Technology Enhancements for FY2020-21
Purchases:
All new computing equipment purchases to be consulted and approved
Starting FY2020-21, all computing equipment purchases are to be consulted with and approved by College TIM Andy Castellanos and purchased by departments under the appropriate Unit Codes and Cost Centers.
All new computing equipment purchases are to be delivered to LACIT (LART 405)
All computing equipment purchases have been scheduled to be delivered to the LACIT Computer Lab located in Room 405 of the Liberal Arts building. There, the Technology Personnel will configure the equipment for departmental use. If by mistake you receive a shipment to your department, please contact LACIT lacit@utep.edu 915-747-5375 to pick up the equipment. DO NOT TURN IT ON!
Inventory:
Verification of Inventory Unit Codes
Before the Technology Personnel works on any piece of computing equipment, its official Inventory information will be checked in PeopleSoft to verify that it's listed under the correct Liberal Arts Unit Code. If it's not listed under the correct Unit Code, a departmental transfer will be initiated to transfer the equipment into the correct Unit Code.
All Departmental Inventory information to be posted online
Every Unit Code under Liberal Arts has their currently-known inventory information listed on the Departmental Inventory page. Every Chair and Director, along with their admin, has been granted access to view this information for their respective department's Unit Code. If your access is not working correctly, please contact College TIM Andy Castellanos.
Transfers:
All Computing Equipment Transfers to be processed by the Technology Personnel from now on
To ensure the accuracy of all Inventory information, all computing equipment transfers from now on are to be processed by the Technology Personnel and that information will be posted in FY2020-21 Transfers page.
Data Requirements:
OneDrive backup is required for department-critical data
The use of Microsoft OneDrive had been encouraged in the past but, starting FY2020-21, you are required to use OneDrive to back up department-critical data. If you need assistance setting it up, please contact the Technology Personnel.
Videoconferencing requirements
UTEP currently has two videoconferencing solutions: Microsoft Teams and Zoom. Similar to the restriction of using 3rd-party cloud storage solutions, you are not allowed to utilize Zoom when handling (orally discussing or posting electronically) CONFIDENTIAL data. If you handle confidential data, you must utilize Microsoft Teams.
Printing:
All Departmental printing to be handled by the selected Vendor
All departmental printing is to be handled by the department's selected printing vendor (Spectrum as of FY2020-21). The College's Technology Personnel will not work on departmental printing. All departmental printing tasks (including connecting UTEP computers to departmental printers) are to be handled by the vendor's technicians for proper setup.
