Dr. Javier Ramirez Franco
Assistant Professor, Department of Chicano Studies, Languages, and Linguistics

Dr. Javier Ramírez Franco joins UTEP from the University of Houston, where he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Center for Mexican American and Latino/a Studies. His research focuses on 20th and 21st century Latin American and Latinx literature and culture, with particular emphasis on gender, sexuality, and transgender studies, as well as border, immigration, and performance studies. He maintains an active record of peer-reviewed publications on topics such as LGBTQ+ cultural production, machismo, and trauma, and contributes to both academic and public-facing scholarship. Javier Ramírez Franco earned a Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of Houston, with a concentration in Latin American and Latinx literatures and cultural studies.
