Use of Family Group Study Room
Working with Mama Academic, the Library has created a study space for students, faculty, and staff with children that allows them to study while caring for their children. It’s located on the third floor, room number 324B.
Accessing the Room
- First-come-first-serve
- Check out the key from Access Services on the second floor of the Library
- Circulates for three (3) hours, and may be renewed unless a family is waiting
- A $.50 fine accrues for every hour overdue
- Max Occupancy: eight (8) people including minors
Room Amenities
- A baby changing table
- Toys
- Toddler table and chairs
- Rocking chair with footstool
- A room divider if needed for breastfeeding or for privacy
Room Policy:
- Only students, faculty, or staff with a child present will be eligible to check out the room.
- Users must vacate study rooms 15 minutes before the library closes.
- Adults must be present at all times; children under 18 must not be left unattended. If an unsupervised child comes to the attention of library personnel, UTEP Police will be contacted.
- Toys, books, and other items are for in-room play only and must remain in the space for future visitors to enjoy.
- Users must clean up after themselves and their family members, including re-shelving toys, books, and returning furniture to their original location.
- Outlet plug covers, if removed, must be replaced before leaving.
- Dispose of all trash in designated trash cans, wipe tabletops, and alert Access Services staff (located on the 2nd-floor front desk) promptly if something is amiss or needs replacing. Disinfectant wipes are available under the baby changing table.
- Do not remove furniture from the study room.
- Do not leave any personal items in the room. Items left in the room will be sent to campus lost and found.
- The lights must remain on at all times.
- The room is not soundproof. Please keep the noise to a minimal level.
- No disruptive behavior will be tolerated. Families who do not comply may be asked to leave. Failure to follow the Family Study Room rules may result in the loss of room privileges and fines.
Familiarize yourself with emergency exits and procedures. In case of an emergency, follow the library’s evacuation plan and instructions from staff. A map of the third floor is posted on the study room wall.
Report any issues to library staff immediately. Contact Campus Police at (915) 747-5611 or 911 for emergencies.
